Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern Colorado late Saturday, bringing the potential for damaging hail, strong winds, and even an isolated tornado. Residents along the I-25 corridor and in the southeast plains could see storms intensify from late afternoon into the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the primary hazards include hailstones over 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Areas near the Kansas border face the highest risk, with conditions favorable for rapid storm development and rotation.
Communities from Colorado Springs to Lamar are urged to monitor local alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Outdoor events should have shelter plans in place, and travelers along I-25 and U.S. 50 should be prepared for sudden low visibility and hazardous road conditions.
The threat is expected to persist until early Sunday, with cooler but still storm-prone conditions likely to follow into the start of the week. Additional watches or warnings could be issued as the system progresses eastward.
