Pueblo, Colorado – Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern Colorado Sunday afternoon, with severe weather likely along the I-25 corridor from Trinidad to Castle Rock after 2 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms forming over the Eastern Mountains may intensify as they move eastward, producing hail over 1 inch in diameter, wind gusts near 60 mph, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.
Communities at highest risk include Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Walsenburg. Drivers along I-25 and U.S. Highway 50 should stay alert for sudden downpours and hail-covered roads. Outdoor plans and events may be disrupted through the evening hours.
The storms could impact power lines and property, especially where hail is most severe. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices in advance, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or smartphone alerts for any severe thunderstorm warnings.
This is the second day in a row of heightened thunderstorm activity in the region, a common early June pattern. Conditions are expected to ease overnight, but additional storms may develop again Monday.
Warnings remain in effect through late Sunday evening. Stay weather-aware and be prepared to take cover quickly.
