Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to erupt across eastern Colorado today, with the highest risk for damaging storms between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., particularly along and east of I-25.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a cold front pushing into the region will help initiate storm activity by early afternoon, with initial development near the Pikes Peak region between 1 and 2 p.m. The most intense storms will likely move across the eastern plains later in the day, threatening areas from Colorado Springs to Lamar.

Wind gusts could reach up to 70 mph, with large hail up to two inches in diameter and the potential for one or two tornadoes. Areas including La Junta, Springfield, and Eads are under an enhanced risk for severe weather. Travelers along U.S. 50 and U.S. 287 should stay alert for sudden weather shifts and poor visibility.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Storms could bring rapid changes and dangerous conditions late into the evening.

Additional watches or warnings may be issued throughout the day as storms develop.
