Colorado Springs, CO – Colorado residents are being warned of extreme fire danger this weekend as gusty winds and low humidity create hazardous conditions for wildfires. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. MDT today, with the most severe conditions expected to hit Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT.

According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include the San Luis Valley and southern parts of Colorado, including areas like Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Trinidad. Winds from the southwest will reach speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. In combination with relative humidity levels as low as 8-9%, fire behavior is expected to escalate rapidly.

This high-risk weather extends beyond today, as the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Monday, expected to last from morning until evening. Critical conditions may continue with gusty winds and dangerously low humidity.

Residents are urged to stay alert and avoid outdoor activities that could spark fires. Local authorities advise not to burn anything outdoors, and fire bans may be enacted in specific areas. Any outdoor burning should be postponed until conditions improve.

This warning follows a pattern seen in previous years, particularly in 2021, when similar conditions led to rapid fire spread. If the forecast is correct, more updates could follow as conditions worsen on Sunday and Monday.
