Pueblo, Colorado – Wildfire danger is spiking across southern Colorado as a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday, threatening areas from the San Luis Valley to Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Residents in affected counties—including Huerfano, Las Animas, Crowley, Kiowa, Bent, and Prowers—should be prepared for rapid fire spread as gusty winds and bone-dry air grip the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, west winds will reach 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, while humidity drops as low as 8 percent. This combination creates prime conditions for wildfires, especially along major routes like I-25 through Trinidad and Walsenburg, and US-50 through Pueblo and Lamar.

Local officials urge everyone to avoid any outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and refrain from using equipment that may spark. Those in rural areas should keep cell phones charged and be ready for quick evacuations if fires start nearby.

Monday’s warning covers one of the largest zones this spring, echoing similar threats seen in past wildfire seasons. The Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m., with additional advisories possible if dry, windy weather continues.
