Lamar, Colorado – Residents across southeast Colorado and southwest Kansas should stay weather-aware Thursday as a tornado watch remains in effect through 8 p.m. MDT (9 p.m. CDT), with the threat of rotating storms capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo and Denver, Tornado Watch 369 covers Colorado’s Baca, Bent, Kiowa, and Prowers counties—including cities such as Springfield, Las Animas, Eads, and Lamar. In Kansas, 11 counties are under alert, including Finney, Grant, Seward, and Morton, where storms could rapidly intensify into the evening.
In Colorado, Highway 287 and U.S. 50 corridors may be impacted by hail and sudden wind gusts. Kansas residents in Garden City, Liberal, and Sublette should prepare for rapidly changing weather and be ready to shelter. NOAA weather radios and phone alerts should remain on, especially after sunset when visibility drops.
This marks one of the more widespread tornado watches for the region this season. If warnings are issued, move to an interior room on the lowest floor immediately.
Storms may persist into the night. Additional watches or warnings could follow.
