Goodland, KS – A strong winter storm is expected to impact parts of Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska beginning late Tuesday night, bringing the potential for blizzard conditions, high winds, and hazardous travel.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon for areas across northwest Kansas, east-central Colorado, and southwest Nebraska. Snow accumulations of up to four inches are possible, with winds gusting as high as 60 mph. Visibility may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow, creating whiteout conditions.

The storm is expected to begin as rain Tuesday evening before transitioning to snow overnight. The strongest winds are forecast in Kansas and Nebraska, where gusts could down tree branches and cause power outages. The hazardous conditions could significantly impact the Wednesday morning commute, particularly along major highways such as Interstate 70.

Residents are advised to delay travel if possible and ensure their vehicles are winter-ready. If travel is necessary, caution is urged due to rapidly changing road conditions. Motorists should carry emergency kits, including blankets, food, and water, in case of delays or becoming stranded.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the storm’s development. Residents should stay updated with the latest forecasts and alerts.
