Pueblo, CO – A special hydrologic statement has been issued for the Arkansas River, spanning Fremont, Pueblo, Crowley, Otero, and Bent counties. Warming temperatures are causing river ice to break up and move, raising concerns of potential ice jams and elevated water levels.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, this alert remains in effect from Jan. 24 to Jan. 30, 2025. Ice accumulation near bridges, bends, or constrictions along the Arkansas River may result in rapid changes to water levels. Although flooding is not currently expected, ice jams can develop suddenly, creating localized risks.

Residents and visitors near the Arkansas River are urged to exercise caution and report any flooding to local law enforcement or emergency management agencies. Avoid walking or driving near the river’s edge during this period of heightened ice movement.
