El Moro, CO – A minor earthquake struck just northwest of El Moro, Colorado on Tuesday. The 2.7 magnitude earthquake occurred at 9.3 km depth, and residents in the region are starting to report their experiences.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake hit at approximately 9:44 a.m. local time. The tremor was centered about 11 kilometers northwest of El Moro, near Trinidad, CO. While no significant damage has been reported, some residents felt the shaking.
USGS encourages individuals who felt the tremor to submit reports through its “Did You Feel It?” survey. These citizen reports help the agency refine its intensity maps and understand the extent of the quake’s reach.
Despite the low magnitude, earthquakes can still be unsettling. The USGS ranks the intensity of the quake as a level III, meaning it was likely felt by people indoors but caused no damage.
This is not an uncommon event for the region, as Colorado has several fault lines. Authorities remind residents to always be prepared for seismic activity, no matter how small.
