Denver, CO – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of central and southeast Colorado, including South Park and southern Lincoln County, as high winds and low humidity create critical fire conditions. The warning is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. MDT on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, southwest winds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Relative humidity levels are expected to drop as low as 11 percent, further increasing the risk of rapid fire spread.

The affected areas include Fire Weather Zones 214 and 247, which cover portions of Park, Elbert, and Lincoln counties. Residents in these regions are urged to avoid outdoor burning and activities that could generate sparks, such as welding or operating machinery near dry vegetation.

Authorities warn that the combination of strong winds, dry air, and warm temperatures can lead to extreme fire behavior. Fire departments and emergency management officials are on high alert as conditions remain favorable for wildfires.

Residents should stay informed through local news updates and the National Weather Service for any changes in fire conditions. If a wildfire ignites, evacuations may be necessary. Precautionary measures such as removing dry brush and securing flammable materials around homes are advised.
