Denver, CO – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Colorado’s high country, with snowfall intensifying overnight. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the advisory Friday night, forecasting 5 to 10 inches of snow for Rabbit Ears Pass and 4 to 8 inches in areas including Rocky Mountain National Park.

According to the NWS, the advisory will remain active until 11 p.m. MST Saturday. Winds gusting up to 60 mph are expected, particularly in the Indian Peaks, Medicine Bow Range, and Mosquito Range. These conditions will likely create snow-covered roads and hazardous travel.

Rabbit Ears Pass, located above 9,000 feet, is predicted to bear the brunt of the storm, with winds reaching up to 45 mph. Other affected areas include the Eisenhower Tunnel, Winter Park, and Kenosha Mountains. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extreme caution while traveling.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) recommends checking cotrip.org or dialing 511 for the latest road conditions and closures. Traction laws may be enforced in some areas, requiring appropriate tires or chains.

Residents and visitors should prepare for potential delays and limited visibility. Mountain travelers are encouraged to carry winter emergency kits, including blankets, flashlights, and extra food and water.

This winter storm follows a series of weather events impacting the Rocky Mountain region this week, underscoring the importance of staying informed. Visit weather.gov for updates on storm conditions and preparedness actions.
