Denver, CO – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snow and strong winds to eastern Colorado, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a Blizzard Warning for the Palmer Divide and surrounding eastern plains. Hazardous travel conditions are expected through Wednesday morning as blowing snow reduces visibility to near zero in some areas.

According to the NWS Denver/Boulder, the storm will continue through Tuesday night, with the heaviest snow expected over the eastern plains and Palmer Divide. Wind gusts exceeding 50 mph will create whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and check road conditions at cotrip.org before heading out.

Snow accumulations will be higher in rural areas, while central Denver and northern metro areas are expected to see little to no accumulation. However, strong winds could still impact urban travel. The combination of snow and wind will significantly increase the risk of accidents and road closures.

Travelers are advised to carry emergency supplies, including blankets, food, and water, in case of road closures or delays. Officials emphasize the importance of staying updated with weather alerts and preparing for rapidly changing conditions as the storm progresses.

The Blizzard Warning remains in effect until Wednesday morning.
