Blacksburg, VA – Residents across southwest Virginia should prepare for dangerous wind chills Friday morning before temperatures begin a significant weekend warmup.

According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, with wind chills dropping as low as -12°F. Officials warn that prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia. Residents should wear layers, limit outdoor activity, and ensure pets are sheltered.

Despite Friday’s frigid conditions, the weekend forecast shows improvement. Friday will be sunny but remain cold with a high near 33°F, while overnight lows dip to 14°F. Saturday brings increasing clouds and a high of 43°F, followed by mostly clear skies at night.

Sunday looks warmer and sunny, with highs reaching 46°F. By Monday, temperatures climb further, hitting 56°F under mostly sunny skies. The warming trend continues into Tuesday, with highs nearing 57°F.

Drivers should remain cautious of slick spots Friday morning, as a light dusting of snow could make roads hazardous. Stay updated with local weather alerts and dress accordingly for changing conditions.
