Melbourne, FL – A Cold Weather Advisory and Freeze Warning will affect parts of east central Florida Thursday morning. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s, bringing potentially dangerous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne, the Cold Weather Advisory covers all east central Florida counties except Martin County from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. A Freeze Warning is also in effect for Lake and inland Volusia counties during the same time. Temperatures in the advisory area are expected to drop to 32–39 degrees, with wind chills as low as 25 degrees.

The NWS urges residents to protect the “4 P’s”: people, pets, plants, and pipes. Residents should bring pets indoors, cover exposed plants, and insulate pipes. Officials also recommend checking on vulnerable neighbors to ensure their safety during the cold snap.

Space heater safety remains a top priority as residents seek to stay warm. The NWS advises placing heaters on non-flammable surfaces and plugging them directly into wall outlets. Heaters should remain at least three feet from flammable materials and never be left unattended.

Clear skies and a northwest breeze will accompany the chilly conditions. Residents should prepare for the frost and take extra precautions while heating homes.

This cold weather event highlights the importance of readiness during unexpected drops in temperature.
