Houston, TX – A sharp cold front has brought freezing wind chills to southeast Texas, with temperatures expected to remain near or below freezing through Thursday morning. Residents should prepare for icy conditions and take steps to protect themselves and their property.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values could dip as low as 20°F, making early mornings especially hazardous. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, with frost and freezing temperatures likely to return overnight into Wednesday.

Drivers on major highways, including I-45 and I-10, should anticipate icy patches and reduced visibility during early commutes. Officials urge motorists to slow down, stay alert, and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.

The extended forecast shows temperatures rising slightly by the weekend. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with a high of 43°F and gusty winds of up to 20 mph. Showers are expected Thursday afternoon and overnight, with highs near 44°F and lows in the upper 30s. By Friday, skies remain cloudy, and another round of showers may occur. Sunshine is expected to return Saturday, with highs near 54°F.

Residents should dress in warm layers, avoid prolonged exposure outdoors, and bring pets inside. To prevent burst pipes, wrap outdoor faucets and let indoor taps drip overnight. Check on elderly neighbors and ensure heaters are functioning safely.
