Springfield, MO – A warming trend will bring daytime highs in the 40s and 50s across southern Missouri on Thursday and Friday. However, this warm-up will be short-lived, as rain chances increase Friday afternoon, followed by a surge of cold air into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield, rain is most likely along and east of Highway 65, with chances ranging from 40% to 70% during Friday evening. A few tenths of an inch of rainfall are expected before temperatures plunge. Residents should prepare for freezing conditions Saturday morning, with lows dipping into the teens.

Highs on Thursday will hover near 46°F under mostly sunny skies, making it a good day for outdoor tasks before the rain arrives. By Friday, temperatures may climb to 55°F, but the cold front moving through the area will bring a sharp temperature drop, with Saturday’s highs only reaching 34°F.

For the weekend, expect dry but frigid conditions. Sunday will be sunny but cold, with highs near 21°F and overnight lows around 7°F. Wind chill values could fall into the single digits, making it crucial to bundle up if venturing outside.

Travelers along Highway 65 should plan ahead for wet roads Friday and prepare for icy patches Saturday morning. Keep an eye on weather updates for the latest developments.
