Lake Charles, LA – A cold front is expected to bring freezing temperatures across Louisiana starting Sunday night, lasting through next week. Residents should prepare for long periods of subfreezing conditions, with some areas seeing over 12 hours of freezing temperatures overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, temperatures could drop below freezing for six or more hours. Northern parishes like Alexandria and Leesville are forecasted to experience the coldest conditions, with temperatures below 32°F for up to 13 hours. Southern regions, including Lake Charles, may see shorter freezing spells of six to eight hours.

The weather service advises protecting exposed pipes, bringing in sensitive plants, and providing shelter for pets. Vulnerable populations, including the elderly and homeless, may also need additional support during this cold snap.

Precautionary measures include insulating outdoor pipes, covering plants with blankets, and ensuring proper heating indoors. Community shelters may offer refuge for those without heat.
