Phoenix, AZ – A significant cold front is moving into Arizona this week, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures across the state. By Wednesday morning, rural desert areas, including Globe and San Carlos in southern Gila County, are at a high risk of subfreezing conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing temperatures will primarily affect higher terrain and desert locations, with lows dipping below 32°F. Residents are urged to protect vulnerable plants, ensure pets and livestock have warm shelters, and check on neighbors who may lack adequate heating.

The cold front will usher in drier air starting Tuesday, with daytime highs remaining in the mid-60s to low 70s across most areas. Overnight lows will begin to plummet Monday night, reaching freezing levels in parts of the state by Tuesday night. Globe and San Carlos could experience freezing probabilities exceeding 70%, with localized impacts on roads and outdoor infrastructure.

Phoenix will remain milder, with highs near 67°F on Tuesday and lows around 45°F. By Wednesday, temperatures will improve slightly but remain cool. Areas along highways, including US 60 through Gila County, may see frost early in the mornings, affecting visibility and traction.

This cooling trend is expected to ease by Thursday as warmer air begins to push back into the region. However, residents in affected areas should take precautions now to mitigate potential cold-weather damage.
