Paducah, KY – A dramatic shift in weather will bring heavy rain to the region Friday night into Saturday, followed by an arctic chill. Residents traveling along US 60 and nearby highways should prepare for slick roads during Friday evening and Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, warmer temperatures will prevail Thursday and Friday, with highs reaching the mid-40s to low-50s. However, a strong cold front will bring widespread rain Friday night, which may persist into Saturday afternoon. Rainfall totals could impact travel conditions, especially for early morning commuters.

Behind the front, frigid air will surge into the area Sunday, plummeting temperatures to below freezing. Wind chills on Sunday and Monday night could dip as low as five degrees below zero. This sudden drop creates an elevated risk for frostbite and hypothermia for those exposed to the cold for extended periods.

The five-day outlook includes mostly sunny conditions on Thursday and Friday ahead of the rain. Saturday remains cloudy, with a high of 45 degrees, and temperatures nosedive to the low 20s by Sunday. Monday’s high will struggle to reach 21 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

Residents are urged to check local forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel during rainstorms, and bundle up to stay safe in the coming cold snap.
