Lubbock, TX – West Texans can expect a breezy and warm Wednesday before a cold front sweeps through, bringing blustery winds and sharply cooler temperatures by Thanksgiving morning. Highs today will reach 76 degrees, but plummeting overnight temperatures could affect early holiday travel.
According to the National Weather Service, winds will shift to the northwest at 20-25 mph this afternoon as the front moves in. Tonight’s low is forecasted to drop to 33 degrees, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Drivers on major routes like US-87 are advised to prepare for reduced visibility due to strong crosswinds and possible travel delays.
Thanksgiving Day will remain cold and cloudy, with a chance of light sprinkles or flurries before 9 a.m. Highs will struggle to reach 47 degrees by the afternoon, and brisk winds will keep conditions feeling cooler. Those heading out for morning parades or turkey trots should dress in layers to stay warm.
The cooler trend will persist into the weekend, with sunny skies returning Friday and highs near 52 degrees. Saturday’s weather will remain mild, with highs around 58 degrees, before dipping into the 20s overnight.
Residents should secure outdoor decorations and monitor forecasts for updates on holiday travel conditions.
