Lake Charles, LA – A significant cold front is sweeping across southeast Texas and Louisiana this Thanksgiving week, bringing cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and scattered rain. Residents and travelers on major roadways like I-10 should prepare for sudden weather shifts beginning Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles, light rain will develop along the cold front late Wednesday into Thanksgiving morning. Temperatures will dip from the mid-70s Wednesday afternoon to the low 40s by Thursday morning. Blustery north winds are expected, creating an extra chill for holiday travelers.
Looking ahead, daytime highs on Thanksgiving will range between 64–72 degrees, with rain clearing by mid-morning. Dry conditions and sunny skies will return Friday and Saturday, but overnight lows will drop to near freezing in areas north of Highway 190. The NWS has issued a light freeze advisory for early Saturday, urging residents to protect sensitive plants, outdoor pipes, and pets.
Travelers should remain vigilant, especially during peak rain hours Wednesday night into early Thursday. Reduced visibility and slick roads could create hazardous driving conditions. Officials recommend allowing extra time for trips and checking real-time weather updates.
By Sunday, temperatures will stabilize with highs in the 50s and lows in the mid-30s, wrapping up a chilly holiday weekend.
