Lake Charles, LA – A strong cold front is poised to bring severe storms, heavy rainfall, and freezing temperatures to Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas beginning Sunday. The National Weather Service warns of localized flooding and sub-freezing conditions that could disrupt daily life.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, scattered thunderstorms will develop late Sunday morning along a squall line. These storms may intensify by the evening, bringing heavy rain, high winds, and the potential for flash flooding, especially in areas along I-10. The greatest rainfall is expected to occur within urban and low-lying regions prone to drainage issues.

Sunday’s high near 75°F will plummet overnight as the cold front moves in, dropping temperatures into the mid-40s by Monday morning. By Tuesday, nighttime lows are forecast to dip below freezing, with areas such as Alexandria and Jasper seeing lows in the mid-20s. These conditions will persist through midweek, with the coldest temperatures expected Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Residents are advised to prepare now by securing outdoor items, avoiding flooded roads, and dressing warmly for prolonged cold conditions. Motorists traveling I-10 or other regional highways should expect delays and hazardous conditions during storms.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast predicts clear and sunny skies returning Tuesday, but temperatures will remain unseasonably cold through Friday.
