Charleston, WV – Snowfall is set to return to parts of Virginia and West Virginia starting tonight and continuing into Saturday. The region could see accumulations of 1 to 4 inches, with heavier snow expected in southern Virginia.

The National Weather Service (NWS) stated Friday that the snow will taper off by midday Saturday in most areas. Cold temperatures are expected to linger, especially in northern regions. This could cause ongoing river ice to expand, raising the risk of localized ice jams.

Travelers should prepare for potentially slippery roads and reduced visibility as snow moves through the region. Motorists are encouraged to check weather updates and allow extra time for their commutes.

This snowfall follows a series of cold days that have already caused river ice formation in many areas. According to the NWS, the combination of additional snow and freezing temperatures could prolong icy conditions, particularly near waterways.

Officials urge residents to monitor local forecasts and follow safety precautions. The NWS recommends clearing sidewalks and driveways of snow promptly and exercising caution when shoveling to avoid injury.
