Wilmington, NC – A light frost is expected to coat lawns and windshields early this morning across parts of southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina, where a Frost Advisory remains in effect from 5 AM to 10 AM EDT Saturday. The National Weather Service in Wilmington says temperatures will drop into the mid-30s, allowing frost to form in inland Pender County, North Carolina, and Marlboro County, South Carolina.

Calm winds, clear skies, and dry air are creating ideal conditions for radiational cooling. By sunrise, residents in Burgaw, Bennettsville, and McColl may see a fine layer of frost on rooftops, fields, and vehicles. Sensitive vegetation and potted plants are most at risk — homeowners should cover or move them indoors to prevent cold damage.

While travel impacts are minimal, rural bridges and shaded roads could feel slick in spots. Temperatures will rebound quickly under full sunshine, with highs climbing into the lower 60s by midday.

This frost marks one of the first true cold mornings of the season across the coastal plain. Warmer weather returns Sunday, bringing highs near 70 degrees before another cool front approaches midweek.

After a string of mild October days, the Carolinas are finally stepping into November’s crisp, seasonal chill — a gentle hint that winter is drawing closer.
