Newport, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina are waking up to clear skies and chilly conditions this morning, with temperatures in the teens and 20s to start the day. Sunshine is expected to warm areas such as Morehead City and Cherry Point into the upper 40s, but temperatures will still remain below seasonal norms.

According to the National Weather Service in Morehead City, today’s calm winds will shift northwest at 6 mph, keeping the region brisk through the evening. Tonight’s forecast calls for clear skies with lows dipping to 29°F, ensuring a frosty start to Sunday morning.

Sunday will offer another sunny day, warming slightly to a high of 53°F. However, changes are on the way as rain chances increase Monday night, with showers becoming more likely Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will climb to near 60°F Tuesday and into the upper 60s by Wednesday, offering temporary relief from the chill.

Motorists should prepare for potentially slick roads during midweek showers, particularly along NC-24 and US-17 in Jacksonville. Early commutes Tuesday and Wednesday may require extra caution.

For those making weekend plans, today and Sunday will be ideal for outdoor activities, though bundling up is advised. As showers approach midweek, stay updated with the latest forecasts to adjust plans accordingly.
