Savannah, GA – Coastal Georgia and South Carolina are under a winter storm watch from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service warns of potentially hazardous travel conditions and possible power outages due to accumulating ice and snow.

According to the National Weather Service, one to two inches of snow and sleet, along with up to a quarter inch of ice, could blanket the region. Affected areas include Chatham, Bryan, Liberty, McIntosh, and Long Counties in Georgia, as well as Beaufort and Jasper Counties in South Carolina.

The winter storm may result in treacherous road conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Residents are advised to prepare for black ice and freezing temperatures Wednesday night, which could exacerbate driving risks.

Authorities recommend staying indoors until conditions improve. Those venturing outside should dress in layers and cover exposed skin to prevent frostbite. Residents are also urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible power outages.

The storm is expected to taper off Wednesday morning, but lingering cold temperatures may lead to refreezing overnight.
