La Crosse, Wis. – Central Wisconsin residents are being urged to protect plants and outdoor plumbing as temperatures plunge into the low 30s overnight. A Freeze Warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. Wednesday, with frost and sub-freezing temperatures threatening crops and sensitive vegetation across Taylor, Clark, and Jackson counties, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse.
Forecasters say lows could fall near 30°F, cold enough to kill unprotected garden plants and late-season crops. Residents are advised to cover vegetation, bring potted plants indoors, and disconnect garden hoses before temperatures drop.
The warning period begins early Wednesday morning, from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT, when the coldest air will settle in rural and low-lying areas.
Local growers and gardeners should take immediate action to prevent freeze damage, while homeowners are encouraged to check outdoor water lines and protect plumbing.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek, but additional frost advisories could follow if clear skies persist through Thursday morning.
