Chicago, IL – Illinois residents should prepare for frigid temperatures this weekend as wind chills dip below zero across the region. A lake effect snow event could bring hazardous driving conditions to Porter County, Indiana, on Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, highs will remain in the low 20s Saturday, with wind chills as low as -5°F in some areas. Sunday will see slightly warmer conditions, with sunshine and highs nearing 27°F. However, Monday marks a shift as lake effect snow develops near Indiana’s lakeshore, potentially disrupting morning commutes along Interstate 94.

By Tuesday, snow chances extend across Illinois, with light snow showers expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Highs on Wednesday will climb to near 40°F before the snow tapers off. Overnight lows throughout the week will stay in the teens and low 20s, keeping conditions icy and roads slick.

Drivers are urged to monitor conditions closely, especially near lakeshore roads in Indiana. Those traveling Monday morning should allow extra time and exercise caution due to possible snow accumulation and reduced visibility.

The week’s extended forecast suggests temperatures will remain below average, with highs mostly in the upper 20s to low 30s. After midweek snow showers, skies will gradually clear heading into next weekend, though cold temperatures will persist.

Stay informed by checking local forecasts regularly and dressing in layers to protect against dangerously cold wind chills.
