Chicago, IL – Independence Day festivities in Chicago may be affected by possible evening storms on Thursday, with the National Weather Service predicting a 20-30% chance of rain. According to the weather service, most of the day will be dry, but the risk of showers and thunderstorms increases significantly in the evening.

The morning and early afternoon are expected to be partly cloudy, with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 80s, especially near the lake where it will be cooler. The likelihood of precipitation rises after 7 PM, particularly in areas near the I-39 corridor. If thunderstorms do develop, isolated coverage of 15-30% is favored.

Thursday night will see a higher probability of storms, especially in regions south of I-80, where the chance increases to 40-70% after 10 PM. This forecast puts many evening fireworks displays at risk of weather-related interruptions.

Despite the potential disruptions on Thursday, the weather outlook improves for the rest of the weekend. Friday is expected to be mainly dry after morning showers and storms clear out, with temperatures ranging from 77 to 82 degrees and breezy conditions. Saturday and Sunday promise pleasant weather, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s.
