Chicago, IL – A wintry mix of freezing rain, snow, and sleet is set to impact Illinois on Saturday, leading to hazardous travel conditions. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., icy roads and slick sidewalks will be a concern, especially in areas south of Pontiac to Rensselaer. Drivers on I-55 and I-57 should prepare for slippery conditions and possible delays.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible, with scattered snow accumulation reaching a quarter of an inch. Temperatures will hover around freezing, causing precipitation to transition between ice and rain throughout the day.

By late afternoon, temperatures south of Pontiac may rise above freezing, reducing the ice threat. However, untreated roads and sidewalks may remain hazardous into Saturday night. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and use caution when traveling.

Looking ahead, Sunday will be cloudy with temperatures in the low 30s, followed by a dry but colder start to next week. Monday and Tuesday will see highs near freezing, with another round of snow possible by midweek. Stay tuned for updates as conditions develop.
