Chicago, Illinois – Scattered showers could interrupt commutes near and south of I-80 Monday afternoon, while the Chicago metro continues to see light drizzle through the morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, on-and-off light rain will persist overnight into Monday, especially in the metro area. Isolated to scattered showers are likely to develop in the afternoon Monday, mainly south of Interstate 80. Temperatures will begin to trend warmer midweek, with highs reaching into the 70s for many inland areas by Wednesday.

Cities along the Lake Michigan shoreline—including Chicago, Evanston, and Waukegan—can expect cooler conditions due to lake-influenced winds, with highs staying in the 50s and 60s through midweek. In contrast, areas farther inland like Joliet, Kankakee, and Aurora will likely see warmer highs in the upper 60s to low 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Drivers should prepare for slick spots early Monday, especially during the morning rush hour. Residents near I-80 may encounter brief downpours in the afternoon. Keep umbrellas handy and avoid unnecessary travel during heavier bursts of rain.

Rain chances taper off by Tuesday with improving skies, but another temperature drop is possible Wednesday afternoon. Stay tuned for updates as additional advisories may be issued.
