Chicago, IL – Snow and frigid temperatures are expected to settle over the Chicago area through Thanksgiving weekend, forecasters say. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a mix of light snow and rain beginning late Tuesday night.
According to the NWS, a narrow band of snow may form overnight, especially near and north of I-80. Accumulation is expected to remain under an inch but could create slippery roads. Precipitation may intensify south of I-80 Wednesday afternoon, with minor snow possible through Thursday morning.
Lake-effect snow may impact areas near Lake Michigan starting late Wednesday night. Northwest Indiana could see slightly higher totals from these localized snow bands. Temperatures will drop sharply by Thanksgiving Day, with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens.
Blustery conditions will follow on Friday, with temperatures plummeting further into single digits overnight. Saturday brings a 20% chance of snow south of I-80, with temperatures staying well below freezing.
The NWS advises travelers to prepare for slick roads and cold conditions during the holiday. Bundle up as Arctic air takes hold over the region.
