Chicago Weather Recap: February 2025 Had Below-Average Snowfall and Colder Temperatures

Chicago, IL – Illinois experienced a drier and colder winter during the 2024-2025 season, with Chicago recording its 10th least snowy winter.

According to the National Weather Service, February 2025 featured below-average temperatures and significantly lower precipitation. Chicago’s O’Hare Airport recorded an average temperature of 27.2°F, 1.6°F below normal. The city also saw only 4.9 inches of snow, nearly six inches below average. Rockford’s snowfall totaled 5.6 inches, 2.9 inches below normal.

The entire winter season (December through February) followed a similar trend, with Chicago accumulating only 11.9 inches of snow. Rockford measured just 12.3 inches, making it one of its driest winters. The region also saw below-average precipitation, with Rockford tying its 10th driest season on record at 2.38 inches.

The dry and cold conditions impacted road maintenance and local water levels. Residents can expect similar patterns if current trends persist. Meteorologists recommend staying updated as spring approaches to monitor potential drought risks.
