Chicago, IL – Thunderstorms are expected to affect the Chicago area late tonight, particularly northwestern sections near Interstate 55. Showers will begin overnight Thursday and persist into early Friday morning, potentially causing minor delays and hazardous driving conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) urges motorists to stay cautious, especially in areas prone to pooling water.

According to the NWS, another wave of thunderstorms could develop Friday afternoon, mostly east of I-55, with a 30% chance of showers and highs in the mid-80s. Storms will briefly subside Saturday before intensifying again on Sunday night, bringing a 40-60% chance of thunderstorms across the region. The weekend storms are expected to cool temperatures, with highs dropping from the mid-80s on Saturday to the mid-70s on Sunday.

The coolest temperatures will arrive on Monday as highs fall to the low 70s, accompanied by scattered showers. Cooler air is expected to dominate the start of next week, providing relief from the warmer-than-usual September weather. Stay tuned to local updates, especially if traveling through the I-55 corridor, and prepare for changing road conditions and possible disruptions through Monday.
