Chicago, Illinois – Humid air and repeated rounds of storms will keep much of northern Illinois unsettled through Tuesday night, with a continued threat for localized flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. The National Weather Service warns that slow-moving storms could drop significant rainfall over the same locations, especially south of I-80.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the most persistent rainfall and storm activity is expected near and southeast of I-55 today, then mainly northwest of I-55 on Monday before shifting south again on Tuesday. Some locations could experience brief but intense downpours capable of flooding roads and underpasses.

Drivers should avoid driving through flooded roadways and plan for slower travel during peak storm hours. Outdoor activities may face interruptions, with lightning remaining a risk during even brief storm windows.

A cold front arriving Wednesday is expected to lower humidity and limit storm chances to about 20–30%, mainly south of I-80. However, forecasters note that additional storm activity could return by late week.
