Chicago, IL – The warm and sunny conditions that have graced the Chicago area over the weekend will soon give way to a significant cooldown. After a stretch of unseasonably warm weather, with highs near 78 degrees Sunday and 81 degrees on Monday, a cold front is expected to move through the region by Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures and the potential for showers.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday will still see partly sunny skies with highs in the low 70s, but a noticeable shift in weather will begin on Wednesday. The cold front is expected to arrive, bringing a slight chance of showers and much cooler air. Wednesday’s high will struggle to reach 66 degrees, a marked drop from the warmth of the previous days.
As the front moves through, temperatures will continue to fall. By Thursday, highs will only reach the upper 50s, and overnight lows could dip into the low 40s. Forecasters predict that by Friday, daytime highs will hover around 64 degrees, with partly cloudy skies, signaling the arrival of more seasonable autumn weather in the region.
The cold front is expected to remain in place through the end of the week, ending the brief return of summer-like warmth in the Chicago area.
