Chicago, Illinois – Thunderstorms are soaking areas north of I-80 this morning, bringing sharply cooler air to the Chicago metro and surrounding counties as temperatures tumble toward 60 degrees near the lake.

According to the National Weather Service, highs Wednesday will range from the mid-60s lakeside to mid-70s farther inland, with isolated thunderstorms and lingering wildfire smoke in play. Evening showers are also expected southeast of I-55.

Milder conditions return Thursday and continue into Saturday, with highs climbing into the low-to-mid 70s across the region. However, lakefront neighborhoods will remain cooler due to persistent lake breezes. Friday could bring afternoon rain chances for areas south of I-80, especially in Will, Kankakee, and Grundy counties.

Residents planning outdoor events this weekend should stay weather-aware. Scattered thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon, particularly in central and northern Illinois. Those near the lakefront should prepare for quick temperature drops and sudden wind shifts.

Winds will remain light through Saturday before increasing slightly Sunday with storm activity. Continue monitoring updates, especially if traveling or attending events outdoors.
