Chicago, Illinois – Morning commuters across northern Illinois should brace for wet roads and gusty winds as a band of midweek showers moves into Chicago by early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 50% chance of rain beginning Wednesday morning, with northeast winds reaching 10 mph and gusts up to 15 mph. Roads like I-55 and I-90 may see reduced visibility and slick conditions during the morning rush. Drivers should slow down and allow extra travel time.

Temperatures will top out near 59°F Wednesday—well below late May averages—before dipping to 52°F overnight under mostly cloudy skies. Light rain chances linger into early Thursday, but by afternoon, sunshine begins to take hold again.

By Friday, the shift is clear. Skies will be mostly sunny, and highs will climb to a warm 77°F. The weekend looks ideal for outdoor plans, with Saturday and Sunday both sunny and dry. Highs will reach the mid to upper 70s, signaling the unofficial arrival of summer across Cook County and beyond.

Looking ahead, Monday continues the pleasant trend with sunshine and highs around 76°F. After a brief midweek cooldown and rain threat, the five-day stretch finishes strong—bringing summer warmth and clear skies for the start of June.

Warnings remain in effect for Wednesday morning showers. Drivers should use caution, especially near Lake Shore Drive and major expressways.
