Chicago, IL – Light rain and snow are expected across parts of Illinois tonight, with temperatures plummeting ahead of Thanksgiving. Residents along the I-55 corridor should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility as precipitation begins late Wednesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a mix of rain and snow will develop after 10 p.m. tonight, particularly south of the Pontiac-Rensselaer line. Temperatures will hover near 32 degrees overnight, creating potential icy patches on untreated roads. Winds from the east will shift northwest by Thursday morning, gusting up to 15 mph, adding to the chilly conditions.
Thanksgiving Day will bring partly sunny skies, but daytime highs will struggle to reach 37 degrees. Gusty northwest winds up to 20 mph will make it feel even colder. By Thursday night, lows will dip to 24 degrees, with wind chills dropping into the teens.
Colder air will dominate Friday, with highs around 27 degrees and blustery winds creating frigid conditions. Saturday and Sunday will remain cold, with highs in the upper 20s and partly sunny skies. Lake effect snow showers could impact areas near northwest Indiana, particularly along I-65 and I-80/94, with localized accumulation possible.
Residents planning holiday travel should check forecasts frequently and use caution on roadways, particularly tonight and early Thursday. For updates, visit the NWS Chicago website.
