Braidwood, Illinois – Drivers across northern Illinois are waking up to dangerous travel conditions Thursday morning as dense fog blankets the region, reducing visibility to near zero in some areas.

According to the Braidwood Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CDT for La Salle, Grundy, Kendall, Northern Will, and Southern Will counties. Officials warn that low visibility could make morning commutes treacherous, especially on rural highways and secondary roads.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles. Intersections and school zones may be especially risky due to the inability to see cross-traffic or pedestrians. Emergency officials recommend avoiding non-essential travel until the fog lifts mid-morning.

This advisory follows a week of fluctuating weather in the region and comes as temperatures remain in the low 60s with light winds—ideal conditions for fog formation.

Fog-related warnings may be issued again if humidity and calm winds persist through the weekend.
