Charleston, SC – Residents in Charleston and nearby areas are under an urgent warning today, as Hurricane Helene brings a significant risk of tropical tornadoes. Areas near I-95, including Charleston, Savannah, and Moncks Corner, could face severe weather later today and tonight, with officials advising residents to have a tornado plan ready.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Charleston, the greatest concern is the potential outbreak of tornadoes, which could affect much of South Carolina and parts of Georgia by late afternoon. Residents should closely monitor local weather reports and be prepared to act if a warning is issued.

The tornado threat from Helene, as of Thursday, includes damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Storm conditions are expected to intensify, especially around Charleston and Walterboro. The tornado threat spans several key roadways, including I-95 and Route 17, where residents and travelers should remain alert.

Friday’s forecast shows a 65% chance of rain with highs reaching 85 degrees. The weekend will bring some relief, with clearer skies starting Saturday.
