Champaign, IL – Central Illinois residents should brace for overcast skies and potential rain this weekend as a murky weather pattern sets in. While most of Saturday and Sunday will remain dry, National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters warn that another round of rain is likely to arrive late Sunday night, continuing through Monday. This rainfall, with a 90% chance of showers, could affect local roadways, including I-74 and nearby streets, complicating Monday’s commute.

According to the NWS, Friday and Saturday will bring highs in the mid-50s with minimal sun. Friday night will stay mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to the low 40s, while Saturday night may dip into the high 40s. Sunday is expected to see some partial sunshine, with a high nearing 62°F. However, clouds will build throughout the day, and a 30% chance of showers is anticipated after midnight.

On Monday, rainfall is expected to intensify, potentially resulting in slick conditions for those heading back to work. Highs will reach 61°F, with a full 100% chance of showers by Monday night. Rain may linger into early Tuesday, followed by clearer skies, with Tuesday’s temperatures forecasted to rise into the mid-60s.

Looking further into the week, Champaign should see partly sunny skies return by mid-week, with cooler temperatures in the 50s by Wednesday. Residents should stay tuned to local forecasts for updates, especially if traveling during rainy conditions.
