Charleston, WV – A winter weather advisory is in effect for portions of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio, with snowfall expected to impact travel through Saturday afternoon. Drivers should prepare for slippery conditions, especially during the Friday evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow will begin Friday afternoon, with accumulations ranging from 2 to 4 inches in central and southern West Virginia, and up to 6 inches in higher elevations. Areas such as Charleston, Huntington, and Logan are likely to see significant snowfall. The advisory remains in place from 1 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Travelers on major routes, including I-64 and I-77, should reduce speeds and allow extra time for commutes. Snow showers are expected to intensify Friday night, creating hazardous driving conditions. Local officials advise using caution, particularly during overnight hours when visibility may be reduced.

The weekend forecast also calls for temperatures dropping to the low 20s, adding risks of ice formation on untreated surfaces. Snowfall is expected to taper off by Saturday afternoon, giving way to partly cloudy skies on Sunday.

Residents are urged to monitor local updates and check road conditions through the 511 service. Additional weather alerts and travel safety tips can be found on the NWS website.
