Waco, Texas – Drivers across Central Texas are navigating flooded roads Thursday after up to 6 inches of rain drenched the region in just three days, triggering flash flooding from Waco to Palestine.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, multiple rounds of thunderstorms dumped between 3 and nearly 6 inches of rain across North and Central Texas through Thursday morning. Fairfield recorded the highest preliminary total at 5.84 inches, followed by Runaway Bay with 4.78 inches and Hurst with 4.55 inches.
Localized flooding has been reported in low-lying areas and along creeks in McLennan, Freestone, and Anderson counties. Waco and Killeen saw several inches of rain, with minor road closures near drainage channels and underpasses. In Palestine, rainfall exceeded 4 inches, pushing streams and rural roads over capacity. Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid water-covered roads and to never attempt to cross flooded areas.
This stretch of heavy rain marks the first significant flooding event of the spring season for the region. Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts, keep cell phones charged, and report high water levels to local authorities.
Additional showers are possible through Thursday night. Flash flood watches remain in effect across parts of Central and East Texas.
