Austin, Texas – Up to 5 inches of rain drenched parts of Central Texas overnight, soaking La Grange and surrounding areas in a widespread downpour that stretched from the Hill Country to the Coastal Plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, radar estimates show a broad band of 0.5 to 1.5 inches falling from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning across the I-35 corridor and into the Hill Country. Isolated pockets saw much higher amounts, with La Grange topping the chart at 5.08 inches and several spots near Uvalde and Rocksprings picking up between 2 and 4 inches.
Travel across the region was impacted early Wednesday, with slick conditions reported on I-35, US-90, and rural roads. The Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone also received steady rain, boosting water tables but raising concerns for brief flash flooding.
In San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Kyle, light to moderate rain persisted overnight, while heavier showers targeted eastern counties. No major road closures were reported, though emergency officials are urging drivers to avoid water-covered roads and use caution during commutes.
Additional rain chances remain in the forecast through the week, and more alerts could follow if ground saturation increases. Stay tuned to local advisories for updates.
