Waco, Texas – Flooding is a growing concern across Central Texas today as scattered downpours continue to drench the region, prompting an expanded Flood Watch through 7 p.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the watch now includes Hood, Somervell, Erath, and Comanche counties. Areas south of I-20 and west of I-35—including cities like Killeen, Waco, and Stephenville—could see an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, with isolated totals reaching 6 inches.

Roadways in low-lying areas and poor drainage zones are especially vulnerable. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and obey barricades. TXDOT reminds motorists: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Outdoor activities, including camping and hiking, should be reconsidered as showers persist through early evening. Flash flooding is most likely in rural zones, small creeks, and urban intersections prone to backups.

While heavy rain remains most concentrated in the watch area, isolated storms are also possible in parts of North Texas, including the DFW Metroplex, though flood risk is lower there.

Flood alerts remain active until 7 p.m., with additional advisories possible if rainfall intensifies or lingers into the night.
