Central Texas – Severe thunderstorms that swept through Central Texas on May 6, 2025, have left behind significant damage, as the National Weather Service confirmed five tornadoes. The storms primarily impacted Milam, Robertson, Leon, and Anderson counties. Tornadoes were recorded in multiple areas, including southeast of Cameron, south of Franklin, Jewett, west of Flo, and Frankston.
According to the NWS’s preliminary damage survey, the strongest tornado, rated EF-1, hit near Jewett in Leon County. This twister had winds up to 105 mph and lasted just one minute. Other notable tornadoes include the EF-0 storm southeast of Cameron, which moved across Milam County with maximum winds of 85 mph.
The storm system also caused significant disruptions in nearby counties, particularly along U.S. Highway 79 and state roads. Travelers should remain cautious as authorities continue to assess road closures and potential hazards, particularly around the affected towns of Franklin, Flo, and Jewett.
