Austin, TX – A mix of rain and freezing temperatures is expected to create hazardous road conditions across Texas’ Hill Country Thursday morning. Light icing could form on elevated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses, potentially limiting travel in the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, rain will begin late Wednesday and continue into Thursday morning. Temperatures will hover near freezing, creating the potential for icy patches on major highways, including U.S. Route 290 and Interstate 35. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve by midday Thursday.

The extended forecast shows chilly but mostly clear weather following Thursday’s storm. Friday will be partly sunny with highs near 44°F, and Saturday is expected to bring sunshine with temperatures warming to 56°F. Overnight lows will remain below freezing through the weekend, making mornings particularly cold.

Residents in Austin and surrounding areas should prepare for winter precipitation by staying informed through local weather updates. Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready and have an emergency kit on hand if travel is unavoidable.

Looking further ahead, Sunday could see a brief warm-up with highs reaching 60°F, followed by a partly sunny Monday with temperatures near 54°F. While no additional wintry weather is expected after Thursday, cooler temperatures and occasional winds will keep the area feeling brisk.

Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for updates and advisories as conditions develop.
