Waco, Texas – Large hail, dangerous wind gusts, and a potential tornado or two are threatening parts of Central Texas this morning as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the watch covers areas from Stephenville to Killeen, including parts of western North and Central Texas. Hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter—roughly tennis ball size—and wind gusts exceeding 65 mph are possible as strong thunderstorms push through the region. A few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
Cities including Waco, Stephenville, and Killeen are under the highest threat zone. Power outages, tree damage, and travel disruptions are likely if storms intensify. Drivers along U.S. 281 and I-35 should prepare for low visibility and sudden wind shifts. Emergency officials urge residents to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if asleep or without cell service.
This is the first severe weather event of May in the region, arriving just as spring storm season ramps up across Texas. The watch may be upgraded if storms strengthen further.
Warnings remain in effect through 10 a.m., with more updates possible depending on storm development.
