McKean County, PA – Heavy snowfall and high winds are forecast to sweep through Pennsylvania starting Wednesday afternoon, prompting winter storm warnings for McKean and Warren counties.
Residents can expect 4 to 10 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 35 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions through Friday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning, in effect until Tuesday evening, and a Winter Storm Watch, active from Wednesday afternoon to late Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service, additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected today in McKean County, with Warren County likely to see up to 5 inches. Wednesday’s incoming system could bring an additional 6 to 10 inches in localized areas, with significant blowing and drifting snow. Visibility will be poor, particularly during evening hours.
Drivers are advised to monitor 511PA for road conditions and delay non-essential travel. Those who must travel should carry an emergency kit, including food, water, and flashlights. Wind gusts are anticipated to exacerbate drifting snow, making navigation particularly dangerous along I-80 and secondary routes.
The five-day forecast shows little relief, with temperatures staying below freezing through the weekend. Snowfall will taper off Friday morning, but slick roadways and icy conditions will persist.
